Virgin Coconut Oil: Natural Remedy for Eczema
To say that to be afflicted with a skin disease is hard is an understatement. It is not just embarrassing and comes with a number of features that adds to the discomfort of the sufferer such as itchiness and soreness. Most skin diseases are also hard to treat as they are reoccurring and treatments and medications cost a fortune.
One skin disease is eczema, a condition wherein skin is constantly inflamed and very dry manifested by itchy, red and scaly rashes. Various types of eczema exists depending on it severity and condition.
The reason for having eczema is unknown although it is linked to allergic reactions. The disease is said to be inherited so having a family history of allergies such as asthma and rhinitis increases one’s chance of acquiring eczema. Many think that eczema is a contagious disease but it is not.
The overall health of a person may be adversely affected because of the disease although indirectly. The constant itching may caused some to lose sleep, therefore suffer from headaches and fatigue. The unsightly appearance of eczema may caused one to feel inferior and depressed.
VCO Can Cure Eczema
The good news is that relief from eczema can be found in an alternative medicine –virgin coconut oil (VCO). Rubbing coconut oil on the affected area is said to provide soothing and healing relief on skin diseases such as eczema and dermatitis. This is possible because VCO has lots of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) or medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) which contains the healing properties.
Unlike other fats and oils with long chain fatty acids that can be harmful to one’s health, MCFA protects human body from many diseases. These fatty acids boost the immune system as it contains lauric acids that contain antiviral and antibacterial properties. The best sources of lauric acid aside from human breast milk are coconut oil and palm oils.
The VCO
is excellent for eczema because the MCFA component repairs the damaged skin when it enters into the cell structures of connective tissues. Wounds, rashes and blisters gets fast relief from using VCO. Apart from the ability to restore skin’s beauty, it also destroys free radical formation thus preventing liver spots.
Inside the body, the fatty acids are converted to monolaurin that fights against viruses (that may cause HIV and herpes) and pathogenic bacteria. The MCFA guards the skin from diseases and infections because when it is combined the mild acid ph of skin, it provides the skin with a protective mantle.
